Movies and Shows featuring Autism

These are movies or shows that are based on a true story or just inspired by autism:

1. Guang (光) - A musical tale about Autism, based on a true story.

Guang is a story about two brothers. The elder brother, Wen Guang is Autistic. Wen Guang is often misunderstood. Above all, he suffers from attention deficiency disorder, struggles with social interaction, and has difficulty performing day to day obligations. He also has a secret passion. To make ends meet, Wen Guang is coerced by his younger brother into looking for a job to share his burden on meeting their monthly expenses. Throughout the film we see Wen Guang searching for a job, his daily routines and his secret passion as he searches for the final glass that will bring him a simple, pure, hard earned, fleeting moment of joy.

2.The Wayang Kids (2018)

"The Wayang Kids" follows the adventures of a group of primary school children in Singapore that seek to overcome their personal struggles while representing their school in an international Chinese opera performance. A boy among this group must push through his autism to ultimately prove to everyone and himself that he has what it takes to be on stage. "The Wayang Kids" is a heartwarming film that sheds light on different cultures and backgrounds, and shows how our differences can actually bring us together.

3. Innocent Witness

Mental disability has long been stigmatised in South Korea, where sufferers can be hidden away by embarrassed family members and shunted to the margins by an unsympathetic society.

In director Lee Han’s Innocent Witness, the testimony of a 15-year-old autistic girl proves critical to the verdict in a murder case. Rather than question the innocence of the accused, the film examines the legitimacy of Ji-woo (Kim Hyang-gi of the
Along with the Gods films) as a witness; the treatment she endures from both sides of the aisle becomes a teachable moment for us all.

4. Marathon (2005)

Kyung Sook finds out that her son Cho Won is autistic and feels devastated. But she firmly believes that there is something Cho Won can do very well. Kyung Sook and a former champion marathoner Jeong Wook see Cho Won's potential as a marathoner, and Cho Won's assiduous training continues.

5. REDHA

Upon the discovery that their only son Danial is autistic, Alina and Razlan's world crumbles as the family struggles to confront the harsh realities of raising a child disabled by a condition they hardly know about. Razlan's inability to accept the truth causes friction within the family, but Alina's perseverance and maternal instinct help wade through the difficult times in raising Danial. With her sister and close friend by her side, they may have found a way to improve Danial's quality of life until a tragic accident causes the family to re-think its strategy.
